Qingdao (, Lagging-Gilles: Ch' ing-CAT, EFEO: Ts' ing CAT “island green”) is a city of the province Shandong in China. It has the statute of under-provincial city. It is also the name of a Bière, the Tsingtao, brewed in this city, and exported in the whole world. One speaks the Dialecte there about Qingdao of the Mandarin Jiao-Liao.

History

The German presence

Qingdao was colonized by the German , and some buildings of Bavarian architecture of them preserves. The city was yielded to the Germany by the Mandchou S for 99 years in 1898. The Japanese took the control of the city in 1914. The Chinese recovered it in 1922.

It is in 1903 that the Germans completed to build the Brasserie of Qingdao (青島/青岛啤酒廠 qīngdǎo píjiǔchǎng).

Mao Zedong (old pinyin Mao Tse Tung), had chosen Qingdao for its summer holidays. One can visit the hotel room (old building of Bavarian style) where it passed from long stays.

In 2005, total GDP was of 269,6 billion Yuan S, and the GDP per capita of: 33188 yuans.

Qingdao is known in the whole world by its famous beer mark Tsingtao. Another large company of Qingdao is Haier, the third global manufacturer of products electric household appliances (refrigerating, air-conditioners, etc).

Located on banks of the Yellow Sea, the city became recently a credit centers nautical. It is there that will be held the nautical tests of the Olympic Games of summer of 2008.
