Oyon

Oyón is one of the 6 districts of the Province of Oyón, Région of Lima to the Peru.

It is limited

  • to north by the Province of Lauricocha, Région of Huánuco,
  • in the east by the Région of Pasco,
  • in the south by the Province of Huara,
  • in south-west by the district of Pachangara,
  • in the west by the district of Andajes and the Province of Cajatambo.

The capital of the district is the locality of Oyón (altitude 3.620 meters). One reaches it by the road by the west since Lima by Churín and the east since Cerro de Pasco.

The district has a surface of 887,61 km ² and its population was estimated at 10.708 inhabitants in 2002. It is in the Andes cordillera (massive of the cordillera of Huayhuash and the Raura cordillera) in the high valley of the Río Huara.

The economy of the district rests on the mountain and hill farming, the breeding and mining. The mine of Uchucchacua , which exploits seams of money (largest of South America and the 4th world one), of Zinc and Plomb, is on the territory of the district between 4.500 and 5.000 meters of altitude. It poses important ecological problems because of contamination of the lakes and river of the area. One also works mines of coal on the territory of the district with Pampahuay and Gazuna .
