Oyem

Oyem (34 000 inhabitants according to an estimate of 2005) is the fourth city of the Gabon. Capital of the province of the Woleu-Ntem and chief town of the department of Woleu, crossroads between the Cameroun, Gabon and the Guinea Equatoriale, the city is turned towards agriculture and the trade. It is the regional capital of North. She is mainly inhabited by Fangs but includes/understands also a minority of commercial stockbreeders and haoussas, of culture and Islamic religion. Besides there exists a mosque in the district where they gather, Akouakam. Oyem has of an airport which makes it possible to join Libreville in less than one hour by plane, of a hospital and a college of State which accommodate people of all the area. The college of the catholic mission of Angone attracts to him also many pupils.

The Gabonese novelist Justine Mintsa was born in Oyem, in 1967.
