Oxidation of Jones
The oxidation of Jones is a Chemical reaction described as being the Oxydation by the Chromic acid of the alcohol S primary educations in carboxylic acid and of the alcohol S secondaries in Cétone S.
The reagent of Jones, a solution of Trioxyde of chromium in sulphuric Acid concentrated, is employed like Oxidising agent.
-
the Acétone affects appreciably the properties of the chromic acid.
- oxidation is very fast, relatively Exothermique, and the outputs are generally high.
- the reagent seldom oxidizes the unsaturated connections.
- the chrome residues are very toxic, so that prudence must be required during the use of this reaction.
