Oxford is a town of England, population 134.248 inhabitants, chief town of the Oxfordshire, on the the Thames (which is called there the Isis ). It has the statute of city. The Université of Oxford (17 000 students) is oldest of the country and one of oldest of Europe; it was founded at the 12th century. Several films were made there like Harry Potter. Oxford also shelters Oxford Brookes University, another university, more recent (19 000 students).

Center services regional, Oxford has important commercial and tourist functions. In spite of its scientific potential, Oxford as well did not succeed as Cambridge to develop a technopolis. Its industry is dominated by the sector of automotive engineering (BMW) and electric.

Oxford became briefly the royal capital of England during the English Révolution, when the king Charles I {{er}} settled in 1642 there.

The groups of music Radiohead, Wrinkle and Supergrass were formed in Oxford.

The writers John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, Lewis Carroll and C.S. Lewis and Graeme Page lived there. To create her character of Alice in Alice with the country of the wonders , Lewis Carroll took as a starting point the girl of her director. The British actress Emma Watson lives there. The town of Oxford includes/understands 39 universities.
