The Non-profit-making association Oxfam-Stores of the World , is an organization of promotion of the Belgian Equitable trade French-speaking creates in 1976.

With its Dutch-speaking equivalent Oxfam-Werldwinkels and the ONG of co-operation Oxfam Solidarité it constitutes coordination Oxfam in Belgium, member of international Oxfam.

Oxfam-stores of the world is recognized like movement of education to the development and further education. Its objective is the promotion of a trade righter, by the sensitizing of the Belgian public and the partnership with producers of developing country whose products are offered in its sales outlets.

Oxfam-stores of the world has today a network of a hundred stores, supplemented by local sales outlets, the whole animated by several thousands of voluntary and the school complexes and university like by a team of approximately 70 permanent remunerated with the support of the public authorities.

The partnership

  • In the producer countries, the projects of production supported by Oxfam-Stores of the world must fill certain numbers of criteria going of the respect of the rights of the workers, trade-union freedom, decent wages, work conditions and healthiness, with the respect of the environment, the development actions room and the capacities to provide products of quality.

N the other hand, association engages with a relation of durable partnership, and gives its support by the guarantee of diffusion of the products, of a remuneration just fixed independently of the consecutive falls of price at the speculation on the international markets and the prefinancing of the orders to allow the purchase of raw materials and material.
  • In Belgium, association collaborates with the two other members of coordination Oxfam in Belgium. The diffusion of the equitable trade is carried out in complementarity with Oxfam-Werldwinkels, at the territorial level, according to the two principal speech communities of the country, and according to specializations of each of the two organizations. Wereldwinkels ensuring the importation of the food products, under the mark Oxfam-Fairtrade , and Oxfam-Stores of the World that of objects and artisanal products, decoration, musical instruments, cosmetics, clothing and objects various, under the mark Oxfam Made in dignity .

  • In Europe, Oxfam-Stores of the world collaborates with organizations of promotion of the equitable trade of the adjoining countries and fact part of different international federations of which EFTA ( European Fair Trade Association ) and network NEWS ( Network off European Worldshops ).

The network

The various sales outlets of Oxfam-Stores of the world are managed by teams of voluntary volunteers without whom association could not function. They are various types:

  • the Stores of the world-Oxfam of equitable trade offer the food products Oxfam-Fairtrade, the artisanal objects, equitable clothing and cosmetic products and information about the actions of association

  • the Stores of the interdependent world-Oxfam of trade propose with the sale clothing in good state coming from the gifts. The product of the sale partly covers the expenses of association, wages, rents and various loads. Part of the benefit is versed in contribution to the cooperative projects of Oxfam Solidarité.
  • the Relays of the world-Oxfam are sales outlets of foodstuff drawn up in villages or communities and points of information
  • the JM (Young Stores) of the World-Oxfam are teams made up of young people and active teachers in establishments of secondary education where they ensure of the publicity campaigns and the product sales of direct consumption, coffee, fruit juice or delicacies
  • the action groups are teams of young people who ensure the promotion of the equitable trade in the universities (Kot with project) or the universities

Campaigns and actions

Parallel to the product sales, the organization carries out since its creation of the actions of information and sensitizing bound for the Belgian citizens and of the public authorities, by the means of exposures, of publications, meetings, political debates and campaigns. These last relate to various subjects such as, the modes of consumption, the problems of waste, the consumption of products resulting from the equitable trade in the communes and administrations, the Travail of the children, the work conditions within the sub-contracting companies of the multinationals, the North-South economic reports/ratios or the reception of the refugees in Belgium.
