Oxapampa

The district of Oxapampa is one of the 7 districts of the Province of Oxapampa, Région of Pasco to the Peru.

It has a surface of 982,04 km ² and is limited

  • to north by the districts of Huancabamba and Palcazu,
  • in the east by the district of Villa Rica,
  • in the south by the Région of Junín (provinces of Chanchamayo and Tarma),
  • in south-west by the area of Junín (Province of Junín),
  • in the west by the district of Chontabamba.

The chief town, Oxapampa , are with 1.814 meters of altitude and 396 km of Lima.

It was created on May 14th, 1876 and was used as place of establishment with a colony austro - German led by Enrique Böttger Treu (the date of this foundation goes back to August 30th, 1891). The district was populated at the origin of natives Yanesha S which called the place “ My Konma ” what means “Flat Reeds”.

The population of the district was estimated at 13.823 inhabitants in 2002.
