Owensboro

Owensboro is the chief town of the Comté of Davies, Kentucky, the United States, in the south-east of Evansville, Indiana, along the river Ohio. At the time of the census of 2000, the population rose with: 54067 inhabitants: 109875 in the agglomeration. Densité : 1  198,4  hab/km ² (3  102,9  hab/mi ²). History

Owensboro was founded in the Années 1790 by William “  Bill  ” Smeathers. At the time, the locality is called Yellow Banks. The first post office opens in 1806. In 1817, Yellow Banks is built-in as a city under the name of Owensborough. The city is named thus in homage to colonel Abraham Owen (to which one owes also the name of the Comté of Owen, Kentucky). The current name goes back to 1893.

The city was the theater of the last public hanging in the United States. August 14th 1936, the Afro-American Rainey Bethea was carried out for the murder and the rape of a woman of 70  years.
