Outreterre (forgotten Kingdoms)

The Outreterre is a fictitious place of the roleplays Donjons and Dragons. It is a vast underground grid of caves and tunnels which extends under whole continents. One can also find the term of Ombreterre (or Shade-Ground) in the old editions or the novels of the editions black Fleuve. In the play Baldur' S Spoils II , one speaks even about Obscure Subsoils.

Description

Outreterre is a populated strange area of odd creatures and old races (majority of them being hostile with the inhabitants of surface). Ombreterre is highlighted in the imaginary world of Greyhawk (where it was introduced in first) and in the forgotten Royaumes. It forms also part of the new decoration of countryside Eberron, but names here Khyber and is the place of residence of the evil, projected in these dark caves at the end of the age of the demons. The major part of the material of play describing Outreterre (in the shape of handbooks and accessories) was published for the decoration of countryside of the forgotten Kingdoms.

Dangers

Outreterre is extremely dangerous, especially for those which are not native. One finds there the various frequent dangers in the caves: Claustrophobia, bad quality of the air and loss of the direction of the orientation. There are no lights except for occasional fluorescent mushrooms; the majority of the inhabitants of Outreterre have developed directions others that the sight or developed the vision in the black (called then Infravision in the 3rd edition of Keeps and Dragons). Food can be very complicated to find, at a good part of the vegetation is poisonous.

  • Svirfneblin (gnomes of depths)

Cities

It exists there many cities, some even well-known of the outside world:
  • Menzoberranzan, celebrates quoted inhabited black elves.

  • Blingdenstone, svirfnebeline city now destroyed.
  • Ched Nazad, quoted essentiellemnt populated black elves, but where many other races come to make transactions there. It is however located close to surface.
  • Ust Natha, quoted located under the ocean, with broad of the capital of the kingdom of Amn.
