Outremont is a crested district of the town of Montreal.
Presentation
It is of a surface of 3,84 km ² and has a population of 23.239 inhabitants. Since the end of first half of the 20th century, it is the traditional residential district of high the Bourgeoisie Francophone montréalaise. One of the principal arteries is the way Coast-Holy-Catherine. The principal commercial streets are: Western Bay-tree, Bernard and Van Horne.
Origin of the name
The origin of the name Outremont comes from the popular language. At the time where City-Marie was only one small village, displacements were to be done by cart and generally a perilous voyage. People eager to go to shift, at the edge of the River of the Meadows, to the north of Montreal, were to thus pass by theRoyal one in addition to the mount. Thus have it indicated this area " in addition to-the-mont".
Policy
The post of mayor of the district of Outremont is currently left vacant the October 11th 2007 by Stephan Harbor which resigned. The advisers of the city are Claude B. Nasty wine (Joseph-Beaubien District), Marie Five-March (Robert-Bourassa District), Anna Nunes (Jeanne-Saved District) and Louis Moffatt (District Claude-Ryan).The October 16th 2007, Marie Five-March becomes mairess by interim of the district.
