Outreau

Outreau is a chief town of canton north of the France, in the department of the Pas-de-Calais (62), Arrondissement of Boulogne-sur-Mer. It belongs to the Communauté of agglomeration of Bolted.

The inhabitants are called outrelois, outreloises.

Old iron and steel city (APO = Steel-works Paris Outreau). A Phoenix dominating the town hall is the symbol of an economic will of rebirth.

History

The business of Outreau

Of 2001 with 2006, the city was the subject of a strong media exposure in France because of an legal affair which shook the public opinion and led with a calling into question of the work of the French legal institution and reaction of the social actors vis-a-vis the Sexual abuse to minor.

War memorials of Outreau

The statue was carried out by Augustin Lesieux, monumental mason and scupltor in Paris. A first inauguration, makes a simple handing-over with the population, takes place of it on December 4th, 1921 by the socialist municipality of Outreau. The absence of the authorities, the clergy, religious service and blessing cause the protest of Outrelois. February 5th, one second inauguration, official this time, is organized. The monument cost 18.000 francs, spends covered by a subscription.
