Ourioupinsk

Ourioupinsk (in Russian: Урю́пинск) is a city of the Oblast of Volgograd, in Russia, and the administrative center of the district of Ourioupinski. The city is located at 340 km in the North-West of Volgograd on left bank of the river Khoper. Its population rose with: 42954 inhabitants in 1989 and: 41960 inhabitants in 2002.

The locality was founded at the end of 14th and the beginning of the 15th century under the name of Ourioupin. It was an outpost of the Principauté of Riazan populated by Cosaques of the Gift. From 1857, it was the seat of the fair of Pokrovskaïa, a center of trade in the south-east of the large plain of Eastern Europe. The city was famous Ourioupinsk in 1929.

Ourioupinsk has a factory of cranes (Ourioupinski Kranovy Zavod) and light industries, in particular food.
