Ourguentch

Ourguentch ( Uzbek Urganch in ) or Urganj . City of the Khwarezm in Ouzbékistan, capital of the province of Khwarezm (Xorazm Viloyati) in the south of the Sea of Aral.

The city in the past called Ourguentch (current Kounya-Ourguentch , Persan Gurgandj , Arab Jurjâniya ), and which undoubtedly gave its name to the Organdi, was the capital of the Khwârazm-Shahs. The eminent doctor Ibn Sînâ (Avicenne) and the scientist encyclopedist Al-Biruni remained there at the end of the 10th century. It was devastated in 1220 by the Mongolian of Gengis Khan then abandoned because of a change of course of the Amou-Daria; its site is in current the Turkménistan, to some 150 km of current the Ourguentch.
