Our Father

The Our Father (also called by its Latin name , Lord's Prayer Noster or, by phonetic deformation, “Patenôtre”) is the most known Prière of the Christian religion . He is recited by the catholic S and the orthodoxe with each Messe, by the Protestants reformed Lutherans and with each worship. With the Baptism, this prayer is the most known bond of unit between the various Christian traditions: he is recited at the time of the oecumenical assemblies.

Prayer given by Jesus, origin, versions

According to the New Testament, Jesus Christ gave this prayer in answer to a question of the Apôtre S about the way of requesting: Jesus their answered “ When you request, known as: “Our Father…” ”. The Gospels of Matthieu (6: 9-13) and Luc (11: 2-4) thus quote this prayer, with some differences according to the manuscripts.

The beginning of our Father has similarities with the Jewish Kaddish (prayer of sanctification of the name of God), then it deviates some and becomes an original prayer without example in Old the Testament.

The French version of the text was adopted in 1966 by the Roman Catholic church and the World Council of Churches for French-speaking space.

There remains however of other versions Frenchwoman. Most known are those employed by the catholics in their personal prayers between the XVIIe century and 1970 which employ the Vouvoiement, but also the orthodoxe translation which goes back to 2004
