Our-Lady-with-Gravenchon is a common French, located in the department of the Seine-Maritime and the area High-Normandy.

Its inhabitants is called Gravenchonnais.

Geography

History

  • the parish Saint-Georges-of-Gravenchon and its Notre-Dame branch belonged to the royal field while coming under the field of Lillebonne. The counts d' Evreux made there build in the Middle Ages the strong castle of the Fountain-Saint-Denis. The two communes are joined together in 1823 under the name of Our-Lady-of-Gravenchon.

  • Napoleon III inaugurates Port-Jerome. A Commemorative Terminal points out its visit on May 28th, 1861, during work of damming up of the Seine.
  • Our-lady of gravenchon is an agricultural city (eminent role of the family the Duke of Lillers) to the installation towards 1930 of two Raffinerie S of oil with two cities for the employees: the " Standard" (for Esso) and the " Vacuum" (for Mobil - Oil). Horace Finaly Managing director of Paribas of 1919 to 1937 takes part in the creation of the Franco-American Standard (and of the French Company of Oils).
  • the refineries are partly destroyed in 1940 and are rebuilt after 1945.

the dovecote: Built at the 17th century is the only vestige of a manor destroys in 1957. The dovecote is currently integrated into cultural equipment.

Castle of Lillers: The marquis de Lillers makes build in 1840 the castle out of brick and limestone, of which interior decoration is due to its wife, girl of the Collot banker. burned about 1930, rebuilt shortly after and demolished in 1970 (real estate transaction of the " Wood of Parc".

Castle of Ételan : Historic building of the 15th century of style " Rebirth flamboyante" restored since 1975.

Notre Dame Church: The parish church Notre-Dame was in the beginning a vault depending on the parish church Saint-Georges de Gravenchon. It was built at the 12th century. It was with three vessels, but the sides were destroyed. The arrow of the tower was built at the 17th century. In the first quarter of the 19th century the chorus was rebuilt by preserving the pinion of origin. The sacristy was built of 1851 to 1852. The southern side was high in 1899 by Constant Martin.

Saint-Georges Churches:

  • the first church, destroyed in 1926, was founded at the 13th century: square tower out of flint with buttresses and stone arrow cut out in essente (known by a drawing). Nave of 36 feet length on 22 broad and 16 top out of pinion. Chorus of 36 feet length on 22 broad and 16 top. There remains the presbytery of the 18th century and a cross.

  • the current church was built at the end of the Fifties.

Firm Jolly: Manor of the XVII and barn of the XIII left with the abandonment in the years 1990.

  • to place the personnel of refinery ESSO, several hundreds of houses néo-Normans (houses for the engineers, houses grouped for the foremen and workmen) and a hotel called " Hotel of the célibataires" (current Hotel Salt maker).
