Our-Lady-of-Angels is a municipality of parish in the area of the Capital-Main road of the province of Quebec (Canada).
Wedged in the territory of the town of Quebec, this strange municipality without municipal administration occupies a surface of only 6 hectares (0.06 km ²) and has a population of 439 inhabitants. Founded in civil parish in 1722, it was built-in as a municipality of parish on July 1st 1855 with an aim of withdrawing its single occupying, the General hospital of Quebec, the taxes.
The grounds near the Rivière Saint-Charles were granted initially in Fief the order of the Récollets, which founded a convent there. The seigniory passed then to the Jésuites, which gave him the name Our-Lady-of-Angels. Récollets regained it as of their return in News-France in 1670.
In 1692, Mgr of Saint-Vallier, 2nd bishop of Quebec, bought it with an aim of founding the hospital there, which took place the following year. In 1698, it put at the head of the hospital four nuns Augustines of the Hôtel-Dieu of Quebec, which thus founded a new community of their kind, and which are always today in load of the hospital.
The municipality is at the north of the downtown area of Quebec, wedged in the district of the City and delimited by the avenue Simon-Napoleon-Parent, the street of the western Police chiefs, and the street Saint-Anselme.
Its surface is entirely occupied by the General hospital of Quebec, including CLSC Low-City-Limoilou-Basket maker, like by the various religious buildings associated with the hospital: the monastery of the Augustines, the church Our-Lady-of-Angels (the parish church), and a museum. The hospital is surrounded by a cemetery where rests, inter alia, the general Louis-Joseph de Montcalm.
Our-Lady-of-angels is one of three enclaves of Quebec (with the Indian reserve of Wendake and the town of Old-Lorette the). It is also by far the smallest municipality which is not included/understood in one of MRC of Quebec.
