Ouette with gray head

The ouette with gray head ( Chloephaga poliocephala ) is a Anatidé of the family of the Tadorne S.

Description

It measures between 50 and 55 cm. The head is gray, the russet-red chest, the belly and the sides white are barred of black and the top of the body is brownish.

The sexual dimorphism is weak, the female being slightly smaller and more tern.

Habitat

It niche in the west of the Argentinian , with the Chile and in Ground of Fire. This species prefers to nest the marshy mountainous regions or forests.

Biology

The barnacle with gray head lives in groups which seldom exceed 100 individuals. The reproduction takes place about November, the nest is placed in tall grasses. This species is nourished especially while grazing. After the reproduction it migrates towards the north of Argentina where it attends the cereal fields.

Populations

The population is estimated between 25.000 and 1.000.000 of birds, the species is not threatened.
