Ouahigouya

Capital of the Yatenga, Ouahigouya is by its importance the third city of the Burkina Faso.

History

The city was founded in 1757, it was then the capital of the kingdom Mossi of Yatenga, but it was destroyed in 1825 and several times attacked in the Années 1870 with the Années 1890. Two reserves (storage reservoir) allow the water provision and support the truck farming (tomatos, carrots, onions and especially potatoes). The economy of the area is also marked by the presence of gold washers.

From a road point of view, Ouahigouya is to 200 km of Ouagadougou the capital, on a road which continues towards the border with the Mali, 40 km in North in direction of Bankass.
