Ottawa islands

The islands Ottawa (in English Ottawa Islands ) are located on the east coast of the Hudson Bay ().

Geography

It are located at broad Péninsule of Ungava (Quebec) but are attached to the Nunavut. They include/understand 24 small islands of which for the principal ones are Booth, Bronson, Gilmour, Perley, J. Gordon, Paltee and Eddy. The highest point of the archipelago is on the Gilmour island and culminates at an altitude of 549 Mr.

Geography The Ottawa Islands are situated one the barren and rocky east coast off Hudson Bay. By 1610 Hudson Bay had been explored and named by Henry Hudson in his quest for has Northwest Passage. It wasn' T until 1631 when Luke Foxe (gold Fox) one has voyage from " Vltimum Vale " (Cape Henrietta Maria), near 57° 40 ', indicated that " Mr. Hudson cal those islands by the name off “Lancaster' S Islands.” " According to historian H.T. Manning, there is No other record off Henry Hudson naming islands in that area. With little further north, near 58° 5 ', Capt. Foxe says "Wee cam by has small Iland At clocke one, the highest I haue seene since I cam from Brook Cobham; the deep 70 fathome. I named the Island Sleepe . " Foxe named the islands just north off Lancaster Isle, " Island Sleepe". According to Manning, the name, having eventually changed to " Sleeper Island" however " The Sleepers" , could Be used " for the islands between and including Lancaster and Ottawa islands."

Fauna

The islands Ottawa and Belcher are a site of reproduction for the subspecies of the Eider to sleeping bag.
