Otsondo

The name of Otsondo (or Otxondo ) applies:

  • with the collar of Otsondo (Navarre),
  • with the brook of the northern slope of this collar, flows of the Nivelle.
This name Basque could be interpreted like “trimming with the wolves”, but it is possible that the radical *ots comes from a Oronyme.

Collar of Otsondo

This Pyrenean collar of 632 m, located in Navarre Spanish, between Dantxaria (Dancharinea in Spanish) and Elizondo, connects the valley of the Baztan (name of the higher course of the Bidassoa) to the France. A surface of picnic is arranged there.

History

There remain bunkers in the neighborhoods of this collar, quiet remainders of a human occupation during the post-war period as well as an American base of communications.
