Otrar
Otrar , also called Farab , ruined city of the south of the Kazakhstan, located on the Syr-Daria. It belonged to the kingdom of the Khwarezm when its governor made massacre in 1219 a caravan of merchant-spies sent by Gengis Khan.
It was the starting point of the bloody invasion carried out in 1220 - 1222 by the Mongolian armies in Central Asia and which, after Otrar, devastated Bukhara, Samarkand, Merv and many other cities of the area.
In 1405, Tamerlan died in Otrar whereas it left to shift against the China the Ming.
