Othis

Othis is a common French, located in the department of Seine-et-Marne and the area Île-de-France.

Its inhabitants is called Othissois.

Geography

Othis is located within a remarkable framework between the Plain of France, opened by immense cultures with the West and the plate of Valois presenting a landscape of plate gently undulating on which the commune was established.

Other strong points characterize this site:

- proximity of the wooded solid mass of the forest of Ermenonville and Chantilly framing the commune in North and the North-West via the wood of St Laurent - the presence of the hillocks and the wooded peak of the Mounts of Goële, limiting the commune to the South. These wooded reliefs represent a major structure of the landscape.

In the North of the commune is prolonged to Ver on Launette, the valley of Launette far from marked.

The commune of Othis is located at the West of the department of Seine-et-Marne to approximately 34 km in the North-East of Paris and to a few kilometers in the North-East of the Charles de Gaulle Airport of Roissy.

It is administratively attached to the canton of Dammartin-in-Goële which account 23 communes: Cuisy, Dammartin-in-Goële, Forfry, Gesvres the Chapter, Juilly, Longperrier, Marchemoret, Mauregard, Mesnil Amelot, Montgé in Goële, Monthyon, Moussy the Last nines, Moussy the Old man, Oissery, Othis, Plessis the Bishop, Reopen, Saint Mard, Saint Pathus, Saint Soupplets, Thieux, Villeneuve under Dammartin, Fortifying, located at the North-eastern end of the Area Ile-de-France, on the septentrional part of the department of Seine-et-Marne. It belongs to the district of Meaux.

The MINOR ROAD 13 crosses the principal borough and connects the common one towards the south of Dammartin-in-Goële to the RN2 towards North and to the RN 330 in direction of Senlis. It is at the same time close to Roissy and the forest of Ermenonville; what confers a strategic position to him to accommodate the population. Urbanized to 12% of its total surface area, Othis keeps nevertheless its vocation of “city in the countryside”.

History

The village concerns in the beginning the bishop Senlis which equips its chapter with it. The soil comprised many strongholds and religious possessions. Old monastery, the stronghold of Guincourt belongs in 1185 to Albéric de Guincourt. In 1205, the monks of Saint-Vincent de Senlis yield in exchange the priory of the St. Lawrence to Guillaume Cluingnet, knight, lord of the “large house” stronghold of Othis. This family whose girl, Aline, were abbess of Chelles (1311), is maintained until XIVe century. Quite national, the seigniory and its strongholds are allocated to the banker Joseph Duruey who dies on the scaffold. Dedicated very a long time to the field crop, as regards the territory of Othis, or with fruit-bearing arboriculture and the breeding, Beaumarchais, the commune hardly knew evolution before do not improve the connections with the stations of Saint-Mard, Paris and Senlis. In the years 1960, a land regrouping however intended to improve the exploitation of the grounds causes an important speculative movement supporting a very fast suburban urbanization. The commune is currently made up of two agglomerations, Othis and Beaumarchais.

Administration

A barracks of gendarmerie will be built on the territory of Othis by decision of the ministry for Defense in January 2006. The brigade of dammartin-in-goele (close city) will be dissolved. The brigade of Othis will comprise a brigade cynophile. The current permanence of the national police located on Othis will close at July 1st, 2006.

  • Notre-Dame Church, dated from the XV° century. The frontage is a masterpiece of the Rebirth.
