Otello is a opera in four acts of Giuseppe Verdi, on a booklet of Arrigo Boito, according to Othello or the Moor of Venice of William Shakespeare. He is played for the first time at the Scala of Milan, the February 5th 1887.
It should not be confused with the opera Otello, ossia it Moro di Venezia of Gioacchino Rossini.
Synopsis
At the 16th century, at Cyprus, in the port of Fangouste, the Otello general arrives with his ship after having overcome the Turkish navy in the Mediterranean and ensured the Venetian authority on Cyprus but the jealousy, the plot and revenge lead to the tragedy.
