Otavi

Otavi is a small town of the center-north of the Namibia, located in a district of the province of Otjozondjupa. The population of this district is of 11,620 inhabitants, according to the census of 2001.

With Tsumeb with the North-East and Grootfontein in the North-West, Otavi belongs to the " triangle of Otavi" , also called " triangle of Maïs" or " gold triangle of Namibie". That because of the intensive culture of corn and corn in this triangle. These three cities are located about at 60 km one of the other. The road between Otavi and Grootfontein passes through the mountain of Otavi which is in fact a valley. The mining city of Kombat is located in this valley, halfway between Otavi and Grootfontein.

July 1st, 1915, the German imperial army is demolished by the South-African troops with Otavi. July 9th, German capitulates close to Otavi and signs the peace of Khorab. A small monument commemorates this event a few kilometres from Otavi.
