Otar Iosseliani
Otar Iosseliani (ოთარიოსელიანი in Géorgien) is a scenario writer géorgien working in France. He was born the February 2nd 1934 with Tbilissi. The films of Iosseliani are particular: kinds of speaking, inhabited silent films nostalgia and of an amused despair. One can find sometimes there a certain familiarity of style which would return it near to Tati but the universe of Iosseliani is much vaster and its many inhabitants.
Biography
He studies initially the Piano with the Music school of Tbilissi (he is graduate of piano, composition and direction of orchestra). In 1953, it enters to the Université of Moscow to follow courses of mathematics and mechanics, it remains there until in 1955. He realizes that to follow this type of studies in Soviet Union means being recruited by the Army and to be retained there. To get clear carefully, it directs towards studies of setting in scene to the Institut of cinema of the Soviet Union (VGIK). It carries out there in 1958 its first film Aquarelle which will pass on television.In 1961 it carries out April . The film, prohibited, will be seen in Soviet Union only as from the years 1970.
Iosseliani becomes fishing then metal-worker, which will bring back it to the cinema two years later, with the realization of the Cast iron , documentary on the work of workmen of a foundry.
In 1967 will leave the Fall the sheets , the film will be withdrawn from the distribution in the USSR. It will however pass the borders to be presented to the Cannes festival.
1968, Vieilles songs géorgiennes is prohibited by the Committee of Cinema of Tbilissi. For It was once a blackbird singer (1971) the distribution will be limited to the film clubs but the film will also pass the borders and will arrive at Cannes in 1974 with Otar Iosseliani. In 1976 Pastorale is interdict until in 1979, year or Iosseliani is named highly skilled Personnalité of Arts of Georgia.
Starting from 1982, Iosseliani works in France: it turns there a Lettre of a scenario writer for the television program Cinéma, cinema . In 1983, always for television, it turns documentary a Euskadi .
1984, new feature film of cinema: Favorites of the moon , which will obtain the Special price of the jury to the Mostra of Venice. Iosseliani is named Artiste of the People of Georgia. The following year it turns documentary for television Petit monastery to Tuscany .
In 1989 And the light was obtains the Special price of the jury to the Mostra of Venice
Hunting for the butterflies leaves in 1992.
In 1994 Arte diffuses the documentary triptych Seule, Georgia .
With Brigands, chapter VII (1996), Otar Iosseliani obtains its third Special price of the jury in Venice.
In 1999 Good-bye, dry land! is seen rewarding for the Prix Louis-Delluc.
In 2001 Monday morning leaves which will be seen decreeing the money Bear to the Festival of Berlin.
