Otacílio Costa

Otacílio Costa is a city Brésil ienne interior of the State of Santa Catarina. It is located at a Latitude of 27° 28 ' 58" south and with a Longitude of 50° 07 ' 19" west, with a Altitude of 884 meters. Its population was estimated at: 14954 inhabitants in 2006. The municipality extends on 847 km ².

General information

The industry of the Wood and the production of Cellulose are the economic main activities of the city. It is located in the tops plate X, to 315 km of the capital of Santa Catarina, Florianópolis.

History

The locality of Otacílio Costa draws its origin from the town of Lages. Its first name was Casa Branca (“French White House”) because of one of the first constructions which was built there. It was called then, Encruzilhada , name given by the Tropeiro S which set up a relay of voyage there.

With the arrival of farmers who reflect in culture of great ground extents, the area evolved/moved quickly. At the time, the majority of the grounds belonged to Otacílio Vieira da Costa, politician, who had in addition to qualities of writer and journalist. He collaborated during more than 50 years with the journeaux buildings and was also elected appointed State de Santa Catarina.

In 1958, the district of Otacílio Costa is created, attached to Lages, before the locality does not become a municipality in 1982.
