The Ostrobotnie of North is a area North of the Finland. It results from the scission of 1997 with the Kainuu. The area always belongs to the Province of Oulu but a new administrative level appeared, always with Oulu for capital. The area is bordered in north by the area-province of Lapland, in the east by the Russia and the Kainuu, in the south by the Savonie of North, the Finland-Power station and the Ostrobotnie-Power station.

Geography

Ostrobotnie of North east one of the most varied areas of Finland. If the West is flat, agricultural and relatively populated, Is (in particular the zone around Kuusamo - the Koillismaa or country of the North-East ) is undulating (central part of the mounts Carélides, in particular mounts Ruka and Iso-Syöte), wooded, and the population density is often lower than 3 hab. /km ². The communes of the North of the area belong to the extensive cattle-breeding area of the Renne.

History

It merges largely with the history of its principal city, Oulu. The Swedish colonize the area at the beginning of the 17th century, thus extending the Ostrobotnie and pushing back the Lapons towards north. The province is divided into two in 1775 with creation in its Northern part of the Oulu N lääni , ancestor of the Province of Oulu. The Finnish Lapland is managed from Oulu in 1936. The industrial town of Oulu knows today a strong growth thanks to the strong development of companies related to new technologies, and the profits of population of its agglomeration compensate for the area the losses related to the Rural migration.

Communes

the area counts 40 common including 11, marked in fat, have the statute of cities.
