Ostrołęka
Ostrołęka is a city of the North-East of Poland, located since 1998 in the Voïvodie de Mazovie. Since then, the city is the chief town of the powiat Ostrołęka . Between 1975 and 1998, Ostrołęka was the chief town of the Voïvodie of Ostrołęka.
Population and geography
Ostrołęka is the 5th most populated city its voïvodie. The city counts 54.238 inhabitants (2002) on a territory of 29 km ². The city is located on the Narew.
History

1373 Ostrołęka obtained the statute of a city.

- the battle of Ostrołęka, the May 26th 1831 is one of most important Polish rising of November. All the day, the Polish forces directed by Jan Skrzynecki resisted the attacks of the Russian imperial forces under the command of Hans Karl von Diebitsch.
