Characters of Ostrevent

Hugues II of Ostrevant , known as initially of Valencians , then known as of Denain , is the second wire of Anselme II known as the bearded one of Ostrevent and Agnes de Montdidier, and the younger brother of Godefroid II.

Born from Ostrevent, it is certainly also known as Valencians, but following the transfer of the possessions in Hainaut of its Godefroid nephew of Ostrevant to his half-brother Baudouin IV known as of Edirne, Count de Hainaut. Of the House of Ostrevant one reduces those from Ittre, Montignÿ, Thiant, Robersart, Cantaing and of Neuville lez Soignÿ.

In XIème century, Hueves d' Ostrevant changed the names and weapons of the House to take those of his stronghold of Denain, Jean his son aisné who died the year 1202 and buried in the church of the Ladies Chanoinesses de Denain, his epitaph ÿ is still existing, it ÿ qualifies fius of Monseigneur Hueves de Denain with his statue cut out of blue marble very armed with the ancient ecu with the weapons with Denain which are gold to the engrêlée cross of mouths .
