Ostmark
Ostmark is the translation in German modern of the term Ostarrîchi , translation in German vernacular language of the 10th century Marchia Orientalis (which means Marche of the East ) which appears in only one contemporary document. There were in fact two steps called marchia Orientalis : the Walk of the East saxonne and the Bavarian Walk of the east.
The word Ostmark is itself a concise translation but not-history made at the 19th century of marchia orientalis . It was given to the last style by the Nazis after the Anschluss of the Austria in 1938, because they wanted to gum all the characteristics of the Austrian identity compared to Altreich . In 1942, the term offciellement was offciellement replaced by “Alpen-Donau-Reichsgaue” or “Donau und Alpenreichsgaue” ( territories of the Alps and the Danube ) to remove any Austrian connotation and any specific relation between the areas composing Austria.
