Ostasieninstitut (Ludwigshafen)
the Institute for Far East (OAI) is a die of the university of Ludwigshafen and has as a speciality the economy of Japan and China. This institute was founded in 1988 by the sinologist Siegfried Englert under the name “Marketing for Far East”, then was widened on the study of Japan by the japonologist Peter Wetzler.

Studies
At the end of their studies, the 180 students of the institute receive an economic diploma (university degree). At the beginning of 2005, the programs “Bachelor” and “Maîtrise” will be set up. during their studies, the students must accomplish a stay of a 6 months minimum in China or to the Japan, to look further into their knowledge of the language and culture.The part-time lecturer of the institute are not devoted only to teaching but also to the consultation for companies, organizations, institutes and private individuals. The members of the institute also took part in the construction of the Chinese house of the located in the Luisen park in Mannheim. Moreover, the institute, located in the area of the Rhineland-Palatinat (Rheinland-Pfalz), profits from a partnership with the Chinese province of Fujian and the Japanese prefecture of Iwate.
