Osmussaar
Osmussaar ( Odensholm in Swedish) is an island of Estonia, in the Golfe of Finland, in the North-West of the country. It is located at 7,5 km of the coast of the commune of Noarootsi (Läänemaa) of which it forms part and to 62 km of Hanko in Finland. Its surface is of 469 hectares, for a 4,6 km length, a width of 1.3 km and a 14 km long coast.
It does not count permanent population. The island was populated quasi exclusively Swedish of Estonia which fled towards the Sweden during the invasion of Estonia by the Soviet during the Second world war.
History
Trimmings of this island were pilot of a naval action, on August 26th, 1914. Small combat, but which had consequences of first importance on the naval aspect of the First World War (1914-1918).
