Oskar Schindler (April 28th 1908, Svitavy, Czech Republic, in the past Zwittau-Brinnlitz in Austria-Hungary - October 9th 1974, Hildesheim, Germany) was a German Industriel which saved during the Holocaust more than 1.200 people by making them work in its factory of enamel and ammunition located in Poland (currently in Czech Republic). Its life was the subject of a novel of Thomas Keneally and of a film of Steven Spielberg. It is buried with the Christian cemetery of the Mont Sion with Jerusalem.

Industrial German sudète, member of the party Nazi, Oskar Schindler made fortune in the manufacture of kitchen ustensils in email with Cracow while benefitting from the obligatory work of the Juifs.
Challenged by their fate, it takes party for them and, helped of his wife Emilie, thus saves the life of 1200 of them of repurchasing them and by bringing them in Czechoslovakia to make them work in an arms factory. He then orchestrates the bankruptcy of this new factory.
After the end of the Second world war, he emigrates in Argentine where he becomes farmer. Not thriving, it returns in 1958 in Germany. There, it tries to be started again in industry and fails constantly. Even after the war, it keeps up to date with the life with the people whom it saved and remains in contact with them.
It obtains in 1961 the title of Juste among the Nations, it receives the Croix of the merit in 1966 and a pension of State in 1968.
A novel of Thomas Keneally, Schindler' S List ( the list of Schindler , 1982), adapted to the cinema by Steven Spielberg under the title the List of Schindler , made known its action with the general public.
A film carried out by Steven Spielberg left in 1993 recalls its history during the Second world war and the methods which it employed to save of the Jews: the List of Schindler . This film gained 7 Oscars of which that of better film and better realizer like all the principal rewards in the category better film, as well as an exceptional number of prices. Steven Spielberg was also rewarded by the Directors Guild off America Awards.
