The oscillating controlled in tension ( Voltage controlled oscillator /VCO) is an electronic system which generates a signal whose frequency varies proportionally with the tension of entry.

Principle of operation

Applications

It is an assembly typically used in PLL ( Phase-Locked Loop, Boucle with locking of phase ). It thus makes it possible to manage the Fréquence of exit of the loop of locking, controlled with the frequency of entry. One also finds the oscillator controlled in tension in one or more specimens in the analogical synthetizers. For this application, the tension which it control depends on the supported key of the keyboard: the frequency of the oscillator thus varies in order to generate the various heights of the notes of the musical range.

Types of oscillators controlled in tension

  • oscillators out of ring.

  • the resonator LLC oscillator.

  • the oscillator with inductance and diode Varicap

  • the oscillators low frequency built around a NE555
