Oscar of the best original screenplay

The Oscar of the best original screenplay is a reward allotted by AMPAS, each year, and which precedes a Scénario which is not inspired by works published beforehand. Before 1940, the Academy decreed the Oscar of the best original history . As from 1940, she added the category of the Meilleur original screenplay , and in 1957, the two categories were combined into only one to honor only the best scenario.

The year mentioned for each film is that of the handing-over of the reward, which directly follows the year of exit of film (a film left in 2006 will be preceded in 2007).
