The Oscar of best cartoon film (in English: Academy Award for Best Animated Feature ) is an annual reward allotted by AMPAS.

The Oscars included the category of best film of Animation for the first time in 2001 with the cinema. It was introduced because at the time of the previous year, the members of the academy were disappointed enough owing to the fact that the cartoon film to success Chicken Run was not nominated for the Oscar of the best film at the time of the 73 {{E}} ceremony of the Oscars. Besides the creators of film gained the Oscar of best cartoon film in 2005 for the Mystery of the rabbit-garou .

The drawing-animated of 1992 the Beautiful one and the Animal to date remains (January 2007) only the Cartoon never nominated for the Oscar of best film.

The Oscar is allotted only so at least eight cartoon films left in room (in the Comté of Los Angeles) during the year concerned. Only the films of more than 70 minutes are taken into account for the Oscar. So more than fifteen films are present in this category, the list of nominated will count five names, if not, it will count only three of them.

The professionals of cartoon films and the fans of the kind hope that the prestige of this reward, and its impact on the business success of film, will encourage a more important production of this type of films.
