Orthodoxe Church copte
The orthodoxe Église copte is an Eastern orthodoxe Church autocéphale. It belongs to the whole of the Églises of the three councils (or orthodoxe Eastern). The chief of the Church carries the title of Pape of Alexandria and Patriarche of the Preaching of Marc Saint and all Africa , with residence with the Cairo (titular current: Its Holiness Abba Chenouda III since the November 14th 1971).
The title of Patriarche of Alexandria is currently carried also by two other chiefs of Church. This Church professes the Miaphysisme, an alternative of the Monophysisme, in contradiction with the Concile of Chalcédoine.

The orthodoxe Church copte is one of the heiresses of the antique Église of Alexandria which is one of the first Christian Churches. According to the tradition, it would have been rested by the apostle and evangelist Marc.

Patriarchal seat
The chief of the Church always carries the title of Patriarche of Alexandria even if the patriarchal seat were moved on several occasions:
-
initially in various monasteries of the desert, in order to escape Byzantine repression
- in Alexandria, starting from 626, after the conquest arabo-Moslem woman
- in various monasteries of the delta of the Nile, between the beginning of the 9th century and the end of the 11th century
- with the Cairo since the patriarchate of Cyrille II (1078 - 1092)
