Ortho

Ortho (in Walloon Ortô ) is a section of the Belgian city of Rock-in-Ardenne located in Walloon region in the Province of Luxembourg.

It was a commune with whole share before the fusion of the communes of 1977.

Ortho is a commune of the province of Luxembourg only since 1839. It formed part before that of the department of Sambre-and-Meuse. It was created under the French mode by the meeting of the localities of Bush, Ferme to the Bridge, Floumont, Herlinval, Hubermont, Mousny, Nisramont, Ortho, Roupage, Thimont, Vieux Bridge, Vivier and Warempage.

History

In the Meuse and the country mosan in Belgium , editions Culture and civilization, Brussels, 1977, Felix Rousseau (Walloon historian) mentions that king Arnoul confirms with the Church Aachen a donation made by Lothaire II of 44 villas (with the Roman direction of the term i.e. a kind of rural agglomeration), among which Amberloup, Paliseul, Chevigny, Bastogne, Ortho. IT is interesting to note it because many villages of Ardenne have a remote origin in the power of the Carolingiens, whose, for Wallonia (at least in its greater part), the Germanic Emperors inherited the influence, through the Diocèse of Liege and the imperial system which made bishops of the kinds of prefects of the Emperor, which is at the origin of the intellectual radiation of this part of Wallonia with Liege like central point, the Art mosan etc It is also known that the dialect Wallon developed in a space whose limits are those of this diocese in its Romance part.
