Ornex

Ornex is a common Frenchwoman of the Département of Ain, located in the Pays of Gex, near Ferney-Voltaire.

History

The commune of Ornex has a very great historical heritage. The oldest house of Ornex (belonging now to the alliance of the family Bétems and Jaillet) was built during XIVeme century. Many native families still live there, such as families Jacqemet, Bétems, Gras, etc During the Second world war, this commune was not very touched because of its proximity with Switzerland. Only the activities of resistance were the fact of making pass from the people to Switzerland.

Many international civils servant work with the Genevese head office of UNO. The daily migration of the frontier is also done towards CERN with horse between France and Switzerland. The ring of accelaration of the particles passes under the communal territory. Overall length: 27 km. Its startup is planned for 2007. Like these close villages, Ornex would not be in a so good situation. Rich people coming from Switzerland or being frontaliéres allow the commune of develop, for example, in the year 1997, the population attaint 2000 inhabitants, thanks to new allotments.
