Orion is a work for orchestra of the Finnish compositrice Kaija Saariaho. Dedicated to Franz Welser-Möst and the Orchestra of Cleveland.

Work

Orion was created in January 2003 by the Orchestra of Cleveland under the direction of Franz Welser-Möst. French creation was ensured by the Orchestra of the national Opéra of Paris under the rod of Sylvain Cambreling, on June 2nd, 2005 with the Opéra Bastille. Orion is cut out in 3 movements:
  • I: Memorandum Mori (Remember that you are mortal)
  • II: Winter Sky (Sky of winter)
  • III: The Hunter (the hunter)

The execution time is approximately 22 minutes.

Discography

At present, the only recorded version is that of British creation by the Symphony orchestra of the BBC under the direction of Jukka-Pekka Saraste.
