On the Holy frontage of the palate Croce, today I notice like Palais Altieri, one reads some words which they can be considered the birth certificate of the country: " George Saint Croce fifth signore of Viano, with wire of Onofrio, with disboscò the forest of Manziana, and carried out you to them coloni in the year 1562, renderings attended the Claudia road, endowed with walls the castle of Oriolo, built the church of S. In the first years of the 1560, indeed, George Croce Saint, received the feudo in donation of the Orsini family, called Oriolo the new raised installation of the disboscamento of the 1560. The signore it invited in its grounds of the peasants and the boscaioli, sayings " capannari" , coming especially from Tuscany and Ombrie, Pistoia and His in particular. Conceded enfiteusi and placed at the disposal the houses for the inhabitants with the obligation disboscare of spots and to cultivate grounds, while corresponding " cinquième" of what collected. The origin will umbra first inhabitants of Oriolo, results still today, remotely of centuries, in some inflessioni dialectal, employ culinari and folk which can be observed in the current population: " The methods to say do not belong to the culture of these zones - he says Dr. Marcello Pigeons - because the countries here around were founded people who came from the orvietano. For example " with the garbo" it is an expression intraducibile which corresponds more or less to the Italian expression " god the envie" or " if god veut" , very frequent in Ombrie. These dialectal forms are lost for various reasons, immigrations, emigrations but especially because of the television which imposed a unified language. They remain methods to say characteristic in the toponimi, for example one goes up that in Canal it is called " the bandifera" in the part which looks in Oriolo " is called; scialimate" that it means the " thing franata." In the 1606 feudo returned to the Orsini family that in the 1671 it sold the Altieri family. The feudo remained in Altieri up to 1922, year when was definitively dismembered on the basis of law which facilitated the stamping from the " civiques" uses;. The Agricultural University, association of peasants resident born in the first years from '900 following the emanation of a national law, distributed the civic uses of the grounds freed to the residents, by maintaining the unitarianism of the grounds.
