The Oric 1 is the first Micro-ordinateur designed by the company Oric.

History

It is conceived in 1982 by Oric, British company lately created with inter alia old Engineer S of the company Tangerine.

Marketed beginning 1983, it is based on a Processeur 8 bits 6502 given rhythm to 1 MHz, 16 KB of memory and a keyboard of 57 keys made up of the same plastic as the keys of computer. A few months later, it arises with 48 Kio of memory.

In spite of its pivot keyboard that some can find unpleasant to use, and some bugs of the ROMANIAN, its weak price (2000  F then 1000  F) ensures to him a success in France and in the United Kingdom. Advertisements of peripherals like a Printing or a reader of Disquette make it still more popular. He is elected computer of the year in France in 1983 and the Atmos will be it in 1984.

Its production finishes at the summer 1984 since it is then replaced by the Oric Atmos.

The sales of Oric-1 in France reached 50.000 units in 1983 (on a total production of 160.000 units), and those of Atmos 27.000 between February and June 1984.

In April - May 1984, the prices on the other side of the channel are Atmos with 170 £, the printer with 150 £ and Microdisc with 260 £.

It is paramount to announce that it is a question of the first computer general public to massively penetrate at Mister everyone , with a moderate price and a connection to the television set, it is a popularization which created very many vocations for data processing and remains still today the stone founder of the computer at the house, passion is still long-lived as testify some to many sites: CEO, defense forces, OGC,…
