History
Nuragic vestiges are present at the neighborhoods of the commune: stone village, Dolmen S, tombs troglodytic S and tombs known as “of giant” .Poor country, of pastures and little inhabited reliefs, Orgosolo was the theater of flights of cattle (sheep, pigs) and of sequestrations against ransoms which fed the myth of the Sardinian gangster. This last, largely phantasm, were initially built on the tradition of resistance to the colonial occupations (Carthaginian phenician, , Roman, Spanish…) or soldiers (NATO, bases states-uniennes) like at the Italian State , particularly strong in the Barbagia.
This “ Atavisme rebel ” gave place to criminological studies at the 19th century: Alfredo Niceforo, disciple of Cesare Lombroso, thus issued in an entitled book the criminalità in Sardegna that the shape of cranium of the Sardinians predisposed them with the crime - an extract of its study is the subject of an ironic mural.

Murals
Orgosolo counts 400 murals. For much political, they carry the memory of the local fights (that of Pratobello against the installation of a camp of the NATO, those of the shepherds against the industrialists and owners), of the international combat (against the Guerre of Vietnam, for peace in Palestine…), of the people killed with the factory (that, local, of Otana, or a New Yorkean factory ) or in conflicts with the State (for example, homage to Carlo Giuliani, killed by the police force at the time of against-G8 with Genoa in 2001). Others mural evoke the daily newspaper of the village: shepherds, women with children, old who discuss.
Very first painting was carried out in 1968 by an anarchistic collective of Milan, the Dioniso group. In 1975, Francesco LED Casino, a professor of drawing Sienan, near of the Communist party, settles in the village after having seen the film Banditi has Orgosolo . It realizes, often in a style inspired of Picasso, very many paintings during two decades, associating its pupils with their realization and speaking with the inhabitants about the village. The Api ones ( “bees” ), a group of former students of LED Casino, primarily made up women, then took the changing, always with this political intention to make paintings of the supports with discussion.
Today, of the artists of the village, of Italy, Germany, France or besides on the walls - some continue to paint respecting the spontaneous, collective and transitory character of the initial frescos, others more exploiting the institutionalization of the phenomenon (organization of contest by private individuals or the town hall, inclinations to develop tourism).
Polyphonic songs
See also: Chant has Tenore
The song guttural has tenore is in particular practiced in the village by Gruppo Rubanu, Gruppo Murales, Tenores Untana Vona, Tenores Antonia Mesina, Tenores Sirilò and Tenores Santu Juvanne. An improviser Ténor (sometimes several, which takes turns as the song evolves/moves) sings in Sarde the sentences of a poem and three chorus-singers (a low , a Baryton, a Contralto) answer him by syllables which stress each one of its interventions. The men (because the women do not practice this song) generally place themselves in closed circle, upright, each one carrying the hand with its ear for better hearing and controlling its voice.
One finds in these ancestral songs of the reasons similar to those related more recently to the murals: the poems speak about the life of the Berger S and the village, of the collective fights (again that of Pratobello), of the workmen killed with the Usine, of the Barbagia.
Cinema
