Description

The OTASE was created the September 6th 1954, on the initiative of the the United States, in the context of the Cold war. The organization becomes one of dimensions of the policy of Containment vis-a-vis the development of Communism in Asia.

The organization, with defensive vocation, is inspired largely by the model of NATO, but seems much less powerful being given the military weakness of certain Member States. The head office of the OTASE was with Bangkok, in Thailand.

The geopolitical impact of the OTASE was rather weak. Thus, alliance took care not to intervene in the Second War indo-Pakistani, the Third War indo-Pakistani and the Guerre of Vietnam, the military weight of the latter falling in the vast majority on only American.

The OTASE was dissolved the June 30th 1977, after the end of the war of the Vietnam and the warming of the East-West relations.
