The Organization for the prohibition of the Chemical weapon|chemical weapons (OIAC), or in English Organization for the prohibition off chemical let us weapons (OPCW), is an international institution based with $the Hague with the Netherlands and which takes care that the convention on the chemical weapons is well applied by the members having signed it.

Objectives

Within this framework it tries to make sign this convention with the countries not-members, it takes care of the destruction of the chemical weapons, it protects and assists the countries which could possibly be the subject of such a threat (on behalf of an other country or terrorists) and it militates for the international cooperation for a non-violent use of chemistry.

Organization

The OIAC consists of three bodies:
  • the Conference of the States left: who is the principal directing body. Composed of all the Member States, it holds an annual ordinary session and if need be, extraordinary sessions
  • the Executive council: who is the executive body and is responsible in front of the Conference. Composed of the representatives of 41 Member States, it holds four or five annual ordinary sessions and more frequently of the meetings or the semi-official consultations.
  • the technical Secretariat: who helps the Conference and the Executive council to discharge their functions. Composed of approximately 500 civils servant, it is in charge of the daily activities of implementation of Convention, in particular of the inspections.

The 145 Member States finance the annual budget of 65 million euros of the organization according to the size of their economy (certain countries contribute only to height of a few hundred euros).

It employs 500 civils servant (from including 200 inspectors) of 70 nationalities different and has like UNO, six official languages (the English, the Arab , the Chinese, the Spanish , the French and the Russian ).
