Order of the pharmacists of Quebec
The Ordre of the pharmacists of Quebec is a professional order recognized under the terms of the Code of the professions of Quebec. The Order counts 6.480 members and 1.615 pharmacies dated March 31st, 2004. A percentage of 18% of the members work in the establishments of the public health (hospitals, health care center of long life, etc). Approximately 71% of the members exert in dispensary, either like employees, or like owners.
History
This order was founded in 1870 it then bore the pharmaceutical name of Association of the province of Quebec . In 1944 it is renamed Collège of the pharmacists of the province of Quebec . It is only with the adoption of the Code of the professions that it becomes the Order of the pharmacists of Quebec such as we know it today.
Mandate
The Order is charged to ensure the protection of the public as regards pharmaceutical services. It emits licenses of practice which it can revoke if it judges that the member derogated from the code of the profession. The office of discipline is the branch of the Order which evaluates the complaints and which erases or orders sentences with the pharmacists. To obtain the license of praic it is necessary to have succeeded in the examination of the Order and to have supplemented the “practical Programme of training courses about the pharmacists of Quebec”. It is this manner that the professional orders make sure of the quality of the services offered to the patient and the competence of the graduate pharmacists. The Order takes care to respect the law on pharmacy and the law on the code of the professions.
