Order of New Brunswick
The Order of New Brunswick , establishes in December 2000, is the highest honorary distinction of the Canadian province of the New Brunswick. It aims at recognizing the private individuals who showed excellence, who achieved not very common achievements and which contributed in an exceptional way to the greater comfort of the province and of its population on the social plan, cultural or economic.
A maximum of ten people can beings named at each year. All the candidates must be Canadian citizens and have lived a long time in New Brunswick. The elected representatives sitting at the legislative Parliament of New Brunswick or at the House of Commons, the members of the Senate and the judges of all the courts are not acceptable. The Order of New Brunswick can exceptionally be allotted on a purely posthumous basis. The Advisory counsel about New Brunswick, an independent group, examines each year all the received candidatures and fact of the recommendations as for the people who will be named members of the order. At the advisory counsel sit the following people:
- the president, named by the executive council;
- the judge as a chief of the Provincial Court of New Brunswick (in alternation with the judge as a chief of the Court of the Bench of the Queen);
- the clerk of the executive council;
- the vice-chancellor of a university receiving an financial aid of the provincial government;
- From three to five members of the community named by the executive council.
The medal with the form of a cucullée Violet (the floral emblem of the province) stylized, decorated blazon of the provincial armorial bearings and surmounted by a crown. The member elects also receive a épinglette and a certificate. The members of the Order are authorized to use the initial O.N. - B. following their name. The medal is given by the lieutenant-governor of New Brunswick, in his capacity as chancellor about New Brunswick, and the Prime Minister for the province.
