The Ordre of Montjoie is a military Ordre and religious catholic. It is created in 1175 in the Royaume of Aragon by noble a léonais, Rodrigo Alvarez de Sarriá, which found too soft the rule of the Ordre of Santiago. This new order is affiliated directly with Citeaux. The order is a time supported by the king Alphonse II which intends to limit the influence in its kingdom of the orders of the Temple and of the Ordre of the Hospital and sees itself entrusting the defense of the south of Aragon. The order will never develop really and will end up being absorbed by the order of the Temple in 1196.
The name of Montjoie is that given by the pilgrims to the mount Rama to the North-West of Jerusalem, from where they could see the Holy City.
