Order of Célestins

Order of Célestins , founded Religious order in 1254 by Pierre de Moron, then pope under the name of Célestin V. This order followed with light differences the rule of Saint-Benoît.

Its first monastery was established with the Mont Magelle, in the the Abruzzi. Célestins were introduced in France by Philippe Beautiful the in 1300.

This order was removed in 1778, because of the corruption which had been introduced there. Their principal house with Paris was behind the Arsenal, on the quay which still bears name of Quai of Célestins .
