Order of Annonciade
The Ordre of Annonciade is a honorary Ordre of Savoy, then of Italy, created at the 14th century.
History
The Order of Annonciade was created probably in 1364 by the Count Vert Amédée VI of Savoy, under the name of Ordre of the Collar . It thus succeeded transitory the Ordre of the Black Swan , instituted by same Amédée VI, in 1350, at the time of the marriage of his Blanche sister with Galéas II Visconti. The statutes about the Collar were codified by Amédée VIII, in 1409, then deeply restructured by the duke Charles III of Savoy, in 1518. At this point in time the Order of the Collar taken the name of supreme Order of Very Holy Annonciade , more than ever devoted to the Virgin .
The Order of Annonciade meets the best conditions to deserve a choice place among most famous Chivalrous Ordres of Europe, such as the Ordre of the Golden Fleece (Burgundy - 1430), the Order of the Garter (England 1348) or the Ordre of the Holy Spirit (France - 1578). It has for him the seniority of its foundation and the historical part played by the famous founder and his successors; the very restricted number of the knights of this Kind; to that was added, formerly, the double sanction granted to the value of the knights and their merit by the choice of the sovereign and the ratification of their brothers in arms.
From the 19th century, the chivalrous and religious spirit having indeed disappeared, the Order of Annonciade is now conceived to reinforce the friendship between the reigning sovereigns. This very eminent and very prestigious distinction is also reserved to the family members royal and to the Heads of State. The number of decorated is always restricted with twenty personalities, distributed, at our time, according to two criteria: the large collar for the Italian nationals; the small collar for the foreigners. There exists always only one single class of knight.
With the number of the current members, one can quote, among other dignitaries of the more high level:
-
S.M. the king of Spain
- S.M. the king of the Belgians
- S.A.I. the emperor of Japan
